Whitefriar Strings Project

First established in 2011 Whitefriar Strings provides access to free professional string tuition to local Whitefriar Street children between 6 & 12 years of age attending St.Enda’s primary school.  Designated as a DEIS one school, catering for children who are socially or economically disadvantaged, Whitefriar Strings  importantly fosters social inclusion and integration of local children and their families; It also instils a “can do ” attitude among young children and encourages team participation.

Under the direction of Kitty Dalligan, conductor and string teacher at the DIT conservatory of Music and drama, the programme has reached over 60 children and their families’ to date.  Whitefriar Strings are also delighted to have had the opportunity to perform for President Michael D. Higgins on his visit to the Whitefriar’s Community Centre in March 2012 to join with the young Orchestral Pops Orchestral for a joint concert in the Helix in may 2012 and to perform in the remembering Barney Mc Kenna concert ‘ in Dublin City hall, as part of the Temple Bar Tradfest in January 2013
